NEW YORK — Music royalty Beyonce and Jay-Z are the proud parents of a baby girl named Blue Ivy, media reports said, breaking the news of one of the biggest celebrity births in years. Pop diva Beyonce, 30, gave birth by caesarian section on Saturday night in a private wing of the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan with rapper Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, by her side, E! Online reported. Initial reports had the baby’s name as Ivy Blue, but those close to the couple confirmed later it was the other way around.

2012 has just started and already shaping up to be huge for hip-hop. Not only did Jay-Z hint that we’d be getting separate solo albums from him and Kanye West, Hov told MTV News that we just may get another Throne album. Will another tour follow? Jay and Yeezy aren’t the only ones gearing up for huge releases this year. Rick Ross, T.I., Nicki Minaj and Nas are all on deck to drop in 2012, and there rumors of an OutKast reunion — then again, there are always rumors of an OutKast reunion.

It’s a good time to be Beyoncé. The singer just released her latest album, 4, and fans were taken behind the scenes of its completion in the special “Beyoncé: Year of 4,” which debuted Thursday (June 30) on MTV. The intimate special opens with black-and-white footage of the singer swimming. “I’m always happy when I’m surrounded by water,” she says. “I think I’m a mermaid or I was a mermaid. The ocean makes me feel really small, and it puts my whole life into perspective. … It humbles you and it grounds you and it makes me feel almost like I’ve been baptized. Am I the same Beyoncé? Absolutely not.”….

I felt like a rock star,” said a bewildered B. “I’m so honored. This is like a highlight of my career.” Beyonce went so far as to suggest that, without Jay-Z’s performance, hers would not have been possible. “I was able to see my husband perform here a couple years ago and it was one of the most exciting nights for me, and I don’t know if I would have been asked to come if he didn’t do the performance,” explained the singer….

Music and Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars all came out to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for the 2011 BET Awards Sunday (June 26) night. Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Trey Songz, host Kevin Hart, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were all in attendance as BET celebrated the year in music. The ceremony kicked off in royal fashion as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, took the stage wearing an all-white jumpsuit performing “Mary Jane (All Night Long)” and “You Bring Me Joy” from her 1994 My Life album. MJB didn’t stop there, bringing out Anita Baker so the two could sing Baker’s 1986 classic “Caught Up in the Rapture.”…
